Educational Trip to Alipore Zoological Garden, Kolkata
St. Sebastian’s School, located at Seal Lane in Tangra, East‑Central Kolkata, organised an educational tour to the Alipore Zoological Garden, popularly known as Alipore Zoo, in South Kolkata. This local field trip within Kolkata helped students connect classroom lessons to real animals, habitats and conservation efforts in one of India’s oldest zoological parks.
The field trip started from St. Sebastian’s School, Seal Lane, Tangra, Kolkata 700015, with students and teachers travelling together to Alipore Zoological Garden in South Kolkata.
At the zoo, students explored key sections such as the reptile house, primate house, elephant enclosures and big‑cat areas, observing animals from India and around the world in secure, naturalistic habitats.
Teachers used the visit to reinforce science and EVS topics, encouraging children to identify species, understand food chains and discuss the importance of biodiversity and wildlife conservation.
The pleasant outdoor environment and green surroundings made the outing enjoyable while also teaching students how to behave responsibly in public spaces and respect animals and nature.
For many students from nearby areas of Tangra, Park Circus, Topsia and South Kolkata, this school trip to Alipore Zoo was their first close encounter with such a wide variety of birds, mammals and reptiles in one place.
